Lab Diamonds
What are lab grown diamonds?
Also known as lab-created diamonds and artificial diamonds, lab-grown diamonds have the same physical, chemical and optical properties as mined diamonds. They are grown in a highly controlled laboratory, using innovative technology that replicates the conditions in which natural diamonds are grown.
How are lab diamonds made?
Step 1. Tiny carbon diamond seeds are placed in a growth chamber.
Step 2. With extreme heat and pressure from the chamber, diamonds are created from these seeds.
Step 3. After 3-4 weeks the diamond is created and is ready to be cut.
Step 4. In the final steps, the diamond is cut and polished.
Are lab grown diamonds tested as real diamonds?
Given their identical counterparts, lab-grown diamonds are nearly impossible to differentiate from natural diamonds, even using a jeweler's loupe! Natural diamonds can only be distinguished from lab-grown diamonds by testing using specialized equipment.
Are lab diamonds considered real diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are structurally and optically the same as mined diamonds. They share the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as their natural counterparts. When purchasing a lab-grown diamond, you should always receive a certificate identifying them as lab-made.
